businesscars.com has a solid partnership with Europcar in many countries. Europcar was founded in Paris in 1949. The company has passed through a number of hands ending up in the portfolio of the Volkswagen group. However, as part of a cost-cutting strategy, Volkswagen chose to divest from its Europcar holdings. In June 2006 it was sold by the Volkswagen group to the French investment company Eurazeo. In 2007 Europcar purchased Vanguard EMEA for €670 million. Vanguard EMEA is the operator of National car rental and Alamo Rent A Car in Europe. As part of this purchase a partnership was made for any business that Europcar would send to North America it would be directed to National Car Rental, instead of their previous North American Partner Thrifty Car Rental. However, because of the take over of Vanguard by Enterprise Rent a Car shortly after, Europcar announced in September 2008 the signing of a major strategic alliance agreement with Enterprise Rent-A-Car, the largest car rental company in North America. The alliance is designed to further enhance the international coverage and service offering of both partners.

Nowadays Europcar offers car rental services in 162 different countries at 13000 locations covering Europe, North America, The Middle East, Africa, Latin America, the Indian Ocean, the Caribbean and Asia Pacifica. While Europcar is an international car rental company, the brand is best recognized in the larger European economies, particularly The Netherlands, Germany, France and the UK.
